Per Request: Coloured Hoots

Several of y'all have asked if I could make you a No Hoots button in different colours (which I haven't done yet, sorry!) - so I just decided to make the basics and y'all can pick and choose which suits your blog.

My own Rabbity makeover

Well, it's really more of a make-under, but I am pleased with the result none the less.  Still in the middle of reorganizing the posts - there's only four up now - but about 44 in draft, so it will fill back up again soon.

Anyway - have a look at the new look...  I know a lot of you have already read the published posts, but I've gained so many new followers of late that I thought I would (re)introduce the writing I can actually do when I am not ranting and raving and cussing like a drunken drag queen trucker...

Y'alls need to...

...fix your e-mails on your profile so I can personally reply to your comments! Dadgummit!

A bunny in your box is a good thing!

But Dear Mister Wise Rabbit the Super Geek, how do we do that?

Well, lemme tell ya...

Go to your Dashboard.  Click on Edit Profile.  Then under Privacy - three bloops down - click on that little box next to Show My Email Address.  Now peek over yonder to the left, you will see something like this:  Currently set to theblogs@rabbitythings.com.  This is where, when you comment, people can email you their personal replies rather than replying in the original comment section.

But Dear Mister Wise Rabbit the Super Geek, I don't want my REAL email showing to every Tom, Dick, and Suzy!!!  They might crawl through the webbernets and sit inside my monitor, sucking on jelly beans and thinking untoward and lascivious thoughts while watching me from inside there while I peruse Etsy for handmade Granny Panties and listen to Liberace cover-tunes as performed by limbless children...

Not to worry Rabbiteers!  A solution is at hand.

Scroll down just a little titch to the Identity section.  See just below User Name there's a box for Email Address.  You can put whatever creams your Twinkie in there.  You can create a new email address just for your blog comments to the licks of BubbaGumpHumpsIt@SquishyShrimp.com (not a real email) if you want to.  It matters not!  What matters is you have a email there (that you can check, of course) to receive your comment replies.

Then once you have done all that, slide on down to the bottom of the page like Smiley Virus on a stripper pole and slap that Save Profile button!

Voila! (Or "Walla" as Mom says!) You gotcha yourself some faincy-panted high-falutin' place for the folks to holler atcha at!

You're welcome,

Blogging without Givahootery [Redux]

[I never thought I'd say it, but thank goodness for Google Reader.  I wrote this post eariler in the week and for whatever reason, Blogger ate it, or it commited suicide, or it is the one that shit on the floor so it's hiding under the bed - I dunno.  It vanished.  But, fortunately, Reader caches everything, so it was still over there.  Yay!  (It might behoove you too to follow yourself in Reader in the event this happens to you too.  Blogger lately has been like a crackwhore on payday...)]
Did I miss the memo somewhere stating it was National I'm a Cunt Month?  People have just been giant globs of anal leakage lately.  That 'Contact' page I have up is beginning to be more trouble than it's worth.  It's too easy for internet jackholes to leave ugly remarks anonymously.  I have been called a "bitter old lady" - which I hate to tell 'em that my titties may be detachable but this is not a King Missle ditty swingin' in the breeze, sweetcheeks.  I have been told I am going to spontaneously combust during The Rapture because of all my tattoos - and here I thought it was because I liked to drop the soap.  It's just been ongoing lately...  Don't these people have porn or Bible Study or, fuck, Yo Gabba Gabba or something???  Leave me the hell alone.

And then, I just got amused.  The last one (tonight/this morning - it's dark, I dunno) told me that if I weren't so offensive I might get more followers.  Well, it's true that having beaucoup pen pals and 70 plus comments would make me happier than a ten inch dick.  But then I realized, I don't give a damn or a fuck or a shit or a horny cross-eyed hoot.  This is my blog.  Don't yell at me because you got in trouble at work for "browsing inappropriate web content."  There's a disclaimer on the front fucking paging tellin' yo' dumb ass I say FUCK too much you giant water balloon of douche.  Here's a novel concept:  get off the fucking internet and do your job...  You festering water buffalo freak.
And for the record, I don't give a flying fuck or a rolling rimjob what you or anyone else thinks of me. You're dismissed.

Fanks and Things

Just wanted to officially say "hello" and "welcome" to all the new Followers that have joined us in the last few days.  I went from losing folks to gaining a whole mess of new people - which is super cool.

Also wanted to say many, many, many thank yous to everyone who participated in my 'favourites' project.  I was really suprised at some of the entries that were chosen.  Totally NOT what I expected.  I have the top ten of your favourites compiled and will be posting all of those on a separate site as well as a copy of my play "Queen of the Fuckin' Universe."  and my Ursula kid's book(s).  The first four of the top ten are up already - you can view them by clicking here. The remaining posts and stuff should be up within the next few days (okay, weeks, probably, but I am working on it!!!).

And - if you want to see my latest busy-work as a side project for Missy at Loving my Child's Gifts, have a gander here (test blog project).

Thanks again to all of y'all for making Redhead Dancing™ the success that it is.  I am more grateful that you realize.  You mean the world to me - and my blogs.

Commentery Tit Workage

Getting Blogger to cooperate sometimes is the bane of my existence.  I THINK I finally have the comment problem worked out on this dadgum thing.  Got the icons to finally show up next to the commenter's name (grrr...) and the comments themselves now should be embedded below the actual post instead of that danged pop up window.

I know here a while back some of you were having problems commenting with the embeds enabled.  If you have any problems with it now/still, give me a shout and let me know.

You Have Mail!

Hey all.  Just giving y'all a heads up that I have changed my email in relation to my blogs.

Instead of having this one go to that one and that one go to this one and the other one stand on it's head and fart at small children and that other one just sit in the floor and cry because no one loves it, I created a new addy all-inclusive to my Land of Blogbelieve (six was a little much!).

You can now reach me at TheBlogs[a]RabbityThings.com - so if you get any comment replies from said address, it's still me - just wearin' different britches.

Peace, Love & Toe Cheese,

Following the Reader

This is really for my Mimi, but I know it can get confusing trying to navigate all the bazillion different blogging platforms that are out there today, so I thought I would post it for everyone.  This is for Blogger's Dashboard only and how to add non-Blogger (Wordpress; Blog.com; Live Journal, etc.) blog updates/feeds to your Dashboard.  I will do another 'toot' on Reader and Feedburner later.

Cutting it Short

A few of you have asked me about the various shortcuts and alt keys available for Blogger.  Like where do I come up with all the little hoo-has such as ♥ and • and ♦ and ☺ and so on.  It's really quite simple once you know the code.  The heart, for example is just clicking the alt key and the number 3 on your key pad.  Thusly giving you the ♥ symbol.  There's a complete list of all the alt codes here or you can make use of TwitKeys - originally designed for Twitter - but they work here as well.  Just click here, which will bring up the TwitKeys window - double click on the symbol you wish to use and then copy and paste into your blog post.  There are beaucoup fun stuffs on this one: ☪ ☁ ☃ ♫(You can adjust the size of the symbols just as you would any other text.  I keep my TwitKeys as a bookmark in my toolbar for easy access.)  These work in blog layouts as well.  (Have a peek at my older/newer links at the bottom of the page - you will see the and pointing the way.)

Blogger also has several keyboard shortcuts you can use while editing posts. They definitely work in Internet Explorer 5.5+/Windows and the Mozilla family (1.6+ and Firefox 0.9+), and might work in other browsers.

Here they are:
control + b = Bold
control + i = Italic
control + l = Blockquote (when in HTML-mode only)
control + z = Undo
control + y = Redo
control + shift + a = Link
control + shift + p = Preview
control + d = Save as Draft
control + p = Publish Post
control + s = Autosave and keep editing

Hi!  My name is no-reply@blogger.com!  And you can not send your carefully composed reply to my carefully composed comment until I do this:

1. Go to your Dashboard on Blogger
2. Hit Edit Profile, right next to your picture, avatar or whatever else you have showing
3. Scroll down to the line that says : Show my email address and CHECK THE BOX
4. Hit Save

Now, for those of you who do not want a regular email address to show, go to Gmail, Yahoo or any other number of places and get a FREE, yes FREE, email account and set it up.

I can't run my mouth back atcha if I can't email anything to ya!

Word Verification:

I know this one freaks a lot of you the flark out.  It really doesn't do anything but annoy the pee sprinkles out of people trying to comment.  I tested it both ways.  With or without.  No noticeable difference - actually, no, I got a grand total of TWO spam comments with the captcha codes ON.  I have yet to receive ANY with it off.  Go figger.  So rest assured that the ghost of Mother Teresa is not going to come crashes through your window in pink sequined boom-boom shorts and do a lap dance on your basset hound.  It will be okay.  How to fix it, you ask?

The answer...  TURN OFF THE WORD VERIFICATION!

1. Go to your Dashboard on Blogger
2. Click on Settings, which is under the name of your blog at the top left of the page.
3. Click on Comments, which is on the top of the page
4. Scroll down until you see this: Show word verification for comments?
5. Click the box that says: NO
6. Click Save settings at the bottom of the page. Please do not leave this page until you have saved settings.

I am sure there are more that I am not thinking of right at this moment.  More to come...  Give me a holler if you have any questions!  And if you know of some nifty tricks I missed, please feel free to add them to the comments!

OH!  And the F5 key is a Blogger/Twitterers secret weapon.  Hit F5 to refresh the page you are on without having to mouse back up to the top of the page.  Almost forgot that one - and it's the one I use the most!

What's on your mind?

I found this nifty little site that compiles your top ten Twitter subjects.  Talk about really showing you what you send out into the Universe!!!  I was waiting with bated breath to see what mine were - I just knew that "fuck" was going to be on there.

It's really not that bad though.  Mine are:

What's on Rabbit's mind?

1. dance
2. [feed]
3.
5. words
6. six
7. y'all
8. hope

It's interesting to see in black and white what you are really running your mouth about.  We often say things (or blog or Tweet) and don't give it another second thought once it leaves our immediate consciousness.

Check your own here.

What's on your mind?  What are you sending out into the world?

Open Letter to My Facebookers & MySpacers

I have gotten several inquiries of the "are you mad at me?" variety this past month due to my lack of activity and/or response to postings at both places.  In short, the answer is no.  I am not mad at anyone.  My living situation has changed (lost my apartment last month) and I am not at a place in which I have the computer or internet access that I used to.  It is now difficult to check umpteen different sites umpteen times a day and keep up with it all any longer.  Before I had cable internet available 24/7.  Such is now not the case.

There are feeds to my blog at both Facebook and at MySpace - as well as feeds to my Twitter account - which is why you see so many posts.  However, all the comments and replies do not feed back to me, or my blog, unless I check them  manually, which I do not always have time for.  It's difficult to maintain my blog (ie posting and commenting there, which for the most part I can do OFFline and update as necessary), maintain Rabbity Things (which I actually get some vague modicum of revenue from), check emails, search for employment, and maintain any sort of presence on these Socially Networky sites.  So the latter usually loses out and fall by the wayside.

It's nothing personal.  It's just what is practical and feasible at the given moment.  You are all more than welcome to participate in my blog, Redhead Dancing, with me.  There is commenting there -  open to anyone and everyone - which is available by simply clicking the feed's link for the blog itself. Those I get to easily and usually within a timely manner.  Otherwise, it may be a while before I respond - if I even do.

So, no, I aint mad atcha.  I just can't keep up.

Hope y'all understand.

Did you know there's more than one "Following" option???

I didn't.

There seems to be a plethora of the darn things, actually.  I couldn't figure out why with all the following and commenting within Blogspot that I do, I was not getting a whole heck of a lot of a response to my own.  (This is somewhat related to my last post.)  I went in to "Manage" my blogs from my Dashboard this morning and realized that the bulk of who I was following, I was doing so "Anonymously" - AND via my GOOGLE PROFILE - NOT my Blogger Profile.

I didn't realize this was an option - or that there were so many options.  Back in the day, you just clicked "Follow" and your Blogger ID followed said blog.  Now it seems you can log in and/or follow with just about whatever you want:  Google, Yahoo, Open ID, Twitter, Bacon Grease & Spit, or the Left Nut of your First Born Male...  My problem was that with it defaulting to "Anonymous" no one actually KNEW I was following them; and if they did, it was linking back to my Google account, which does not have any links to any of my blogs...  So they didn't know I was there; nor did they know how to find me.  Wonderful!

The only way I have found thus far around it is to go into to the blog management on my Dashboard (there's a button at the bottom that reads "Manage") and start checking settings.  In the main list it shows you easily enough if you are following whichever blog publicly or privately, but in order to figure out which flappin' profile it has decided to use, you have to click the settings link for each blog.  (I know: hemorrhoid.)

That brings up this window:

As you can see, it has opted to go with the damned Google profile (there's a little "G" in the bottom right of the image) and it's set to follow anonymously.  To get it to link up to your Blogger profile, just click "Change" and choose the appropriate one (and trip OUT on all the options now!) and then click the "anonymously" link to follow the blog publicly - and click then click "Done."

I don't know when all this changed but it sure is a freakin' chore and a half.  And was something I was totally unaware of until stumbling across it this morning.

Maybe things will pick up now....

♫ Tell Me Somethin' Good! ♫

Lately I have found myself becoming increasingly disenchanted with the whole blogging world.  So much has changed since I began blogging almost 12 years ago now.  I've been a part of dang near every blogging platform out there at one time or another - from Blurty to WordPress and back again.  I first began on Blogger (pre-Google and Blogspot) back in the year 2000 or 2001 and I always come back.  You can imagine all the different faces I have seen over the years.

More recently, I just feel like I don't belong.  My reading list is full.  I have more than 150 amazing writers that I follow or subscribe to on a regular basis - but my own followers - and comments even - are at an all time low.  I just feel something's missing.  I don't really know if it is ME or if this is just what the blogging community has become for this little space in time.  I am just not getting that thing that I used to get from other's blogs - or from my own writing.  My first instinct, in true Rabbit form, is to just say the hell with it and shut it all down (and eventually start it all over again later).  But I really don't want too...  And before I get to that point, I am askin' y'all for your input.

What blogs really tickle your nanny goat's britches?  Is there a site you just can't live without?  I am itchin' and achin' and hongry for some new blood; a fresh take; a good laugh; a good cry, even.

Show me what you got.

Who just blows you away?
